Pressure changes

Why are tunnels critical for windows?

When a train enters a tunnel or passes another train, the outside pressure changes abruptly. The pane has to take those load cycles millions of times without the seal giving way.

Typical application: Pressure-sealed vehicles, hinged windows with two sealing planes.

Service life

How long does a rail window have to last?

Rail vehicles run for decades. Windows, doors and seals are therefore designed not for a model year but for a fleet – including spare parts supply across the whole period of service.

Typical application: Fleets from Stadler, Siemens and the Berlin underground.

Bonding and welding

Why are the joining processes certified?

Glazing is bonded and frames and doors are welded. Both are so-called special processes: you cannot tell from the finished component whether they were carried out correctly. Personnel and procedures are therefore externally certified – welding to DIN EN 15085-2 CL1, bonding to DIN EN 17460.

What does Cleff supply for rail?

Driver's cab windows, side windows, hopper and sliding windows, entrance, machine room and maintenance doors and partitions – individually or as a complete system supply with casing, seals and fittings.

Which certifications does Cleff hold for rail vehicles?

Welding to DIN EN 15085-2 (classification level CL1), adhesive bonding to DIN EN 17460 (replaces DIN 6701), quality management DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and Deutsche Bahn's qualification rating for rail vehicle components.

Which window functions are available for driver's cabs?

Driver's cab windows are supplied with various functions: electromechanical, flush-mounted (Flush Window), insulated glazing, pressure-tight with two sealing levels, and as sliding, pivot, hopper or top-hung windows.

Does Cleff test windows and doors itself?

Yes. In our own test centre we test, among other things, pressure cycling based on UIC 566, air and water tightness of doors based on DIN EN 14752 and fatigue strength under vibration to DIN EN 61373.
